  I was very sad to hear of the passing of my Great Aunt Cicci. I have very fond memories of Cicci, both from my childhood and from a trip to Italy when I was 19. I feel very grateful that I was able to spend some time with her as an adult as well. Today, I dug out the diary that I wrote during that trip (in 2010) and found the entry recounting a lovely afternoon I spent with Cicci, Pitta and Giuseppe. I wrote “We went to a little café for tea and they brought us a little plate of cake and biscuits. Pitta made me and Cicci eat all of them. Me because I am slim and Cicci because she had already started eating them.” In a later entry I wrote “Cicci seems to prefer tea to coffee which makes me automatically like her. I like her anyway of course. I like her very much.” I spoke barely any Italian at that time and travelling alone, was easily overwhelmed but I remember how comfortable Cicci made me feel. Her sense of humour, kindness and joy for life (and cake) surpassed any language barrier. I wish I could have spent more time with her. She will be missed sorely by all who knew her. My heart goes out to Paulo and Carla, Gabriella and Ameer who will be in my thoughts and prayers. Sending you all my love at this sad and difficult time.

  Dear Gabriella and Paolo, your mother, my aunt, was a lovely kind person and I have such fond memories of her. How very welcoming she always was. My heart goes out to you for your loss. A big hug to both of you, and lots of love.
